In this post we are sharing all about seed cycling using the moon phases.

Do you suffer from irregular or missing periods? Do you find it hard to track your cycle and would love a more regular cycle?

Or maybe you are past that stage in your life and you are now looking to use seed cycling for menopausal symptoms?

Did you know you can follow the phases of the moon (new moon and full moon) while seed cycling to help guide you?

Well you can, and it’s easy to do so!

Seed cycling is a gentle way to balance your hormones throughout the two phases of your menstrual cycle using the nutrients found in four specific seeds.

The menstrual cycle is made up of two main phases:

  • The Follicular Phase - (Day 1-14 beginning on the first day of your period) - the estrogen-dominant phase of your cycle.
  • The Luteal Phase - (Day 15-28 beginning right after ovulation) -  where your body shifts to progesterone production.

By consuming the seeds at certain times throughout the month, allows the body to gain access to the building blocks, the fats and the lignans contained within the seeds, to support specific hormone production in the body.

Which seeds to use for seed cycling:

Seed cycling is done by switching between pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds to help boost hormones.

Pumpkin and flaxseeds increase estrogen levels during the first 14 days. These seeds contain lignans, a type of fiber, which helps metabolize the estrogen to a healthy level.

In the next 14 days, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds boost progesterone. Progesterone is the hormone that helps relieve PMS symptoms such as mood swings and bloating.

Eating these specific seeds together help your body to regulate these hormones that may be unbalanced and which may be causing you those monthly struggles.

  • Pumpkin seeds are rich in omega 6 and zinc
  • Flaxseed is rich in omega 3 essential fatty acids
  • Sunflower seeds contain Vitamin E and selenium
  • Sesame seeds are also rich in Vitamin E

The seed cycling process involves:

  1. Consuming 1 scoop (2 tablespoons) of the Phase 1 Blend during the Follicular Phase (days 1-14) or on the first day of the new moon and continuing for the 14 days following.
  2. Consuming 1 scoop (2 tablespoons) Phase 2 Blend during the Luteal Phase (days 15-30) or on the first day of the full moon and continuing the 14 days following.

What if I don’t have a regular period or have missing periods?

This is when you would follow the moon cycles and let them guide you!

For menopausal and postmenopausal women or women without a regular menstrual cycle, it’s recommended to use the phases of the moon as a guide to cycle dates.

The new moon will be day 1 of your cycle.

You will consume the Phase 1 Blend from this day and the 14 days following.

Then at day 15, which would be the full moon, you will switch to the Phase 2 Blend and continue consuming until the next new moon.

The process then continues back to the Phase 1 Blend on the next new moon, then back to the Phase 2 Blend on the next full moon and so on.

Continue cycling in this pattern using the new moon & full moon cycles until your cycle becomes regular and is more consistent.

IDEA: Save a copy of the new moon & full moon dates (search for Moon Phases) for the year or print a copy to keep at home! And for an extra helpful tip, set reminders in your phone for each of the dates so you never forget when to switch the blends!

Just remember, it can take several cycles (3-4 months) to begin feeling and seeing the changes.

Seed cycling is not an overnight fix or meant to cure serious health or hormonal conditions. It is a powerful yet gentle and natural way to support your hormones and regulate your cycle using real food! It’s like magic!
