What is Seed Cycling?

Seed cycling is a naturopathic practice that involves consuming specific seeds during different phases of the menstrual cycle to naturally balance hormone levels. The practice typically includes flax and pumpkin seeds for the first half of the cycle, and sesame and sunflower seeds for the second half. Each seed type is rich in lignans and essential fatty acids that are believed to support the body in estrogen production and detoxification, thus promoting hormonal balance.

The Benefits

Mel's clients, along with many other women, have experienced the benefits of seed cycling, and the scientific community is beginning to validate these experiences. A groundbreaking study completed in June 2023 specifically investigated seed cycling's effects on PCOS, showing promising results. You can delve into the research here. Many who practice seed cycling report better menstrual regularity, fewer PMS symptoms, and improved overall wellbeing .

How to Get Started

Incorporating seed cycling into your routine can be as simple as sprinkling these seeds on your salads, blending them into smoothies, or, as we're about to show you, crafting delicious recipes like our breakfast slice.

Seed Cycling + Matcha Breakfast Slice Recipe

Ingredients

Crust:

  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut
  • 8 Medjool dates, unpitted (natural sweetness and binding)
  • 2 tablespoons almond spread (creamy and rich in vitamin E)
  • 3 tablespoons almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon of The Seed Cycle Phase 1 or 2 blend (for your seed cycling benefits)

Filling:

  • 1 tablespoon matcha (a superfood loaded with antioxidants)
  • 1 cup raw cashews (for creaminess and a dose of healthy fats)
  • 1/4 cup rice malt syrup
  • 1 cup coconut cream (for a lush, tropical richness)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Begin by softening your cashews: add them to a saucepan with water, bring to a boil, then remove from heat and let sit for 15 minutes. This process makes the cashews perfectly pliable for a smooth filling.
  2. Simultaneously, soak your Medjool dates in hot water for 10 minutes to soften, making them easier to blend into the crust.
  3. Prepare your slice tray by lining it with baking paper, ensuring a non-stick surface for easy removal.
  4. For the crust, blend the quick oats, shredded coconut, softened dates, almond spread, almond milk, and The Seed Cycle Phase 1 or 2 blend in a food processor until you achieve a sticky, cohesive mixture.
  5. Press this crust mixture evenly into your prepared slice tray. Pop it in the freezer to set while you craft the filling, creating a firm base for your vibrant matcha layer.
  6. Clean out your food processor, then blend the soaked cashews, matcha, rice malt syrup, coconut cream, and vanilla extract until the mixture is irresistibly smooth and creamy.
  7. Pour this luscious green filling over your now-set crust, smoothing out the top for an even layer.
  8. For the grand finale, return the tray to the freezer and leave it to set until firm, ideally overnight, to ensure every layer melds together perfectly.

When ready to serve, slice your creation into bars or squares and enjoy a piece of this Seed Cycling Matcha masterpiece, knowing you're starting your day with a boost of nutrients, flavors, and a step towards hormonal harmony.
